From July 21 to 24, 1976, hundreds of members of the American Legion and their wives gathered in Philadelphia for the 58th annual meetings of the legion and its women’s auxiliary.As at previous conventions, members of both groups heard speeches from politicians and from the organizations’ leaders. The men held their meetings at one downtown hotel while the women held their meetings at another hotel. Guests stayed at both hotels, and some social events for both groups were held at each hotel. Many attendees came to Philadelphia a day or two early to visit the city’s historic attractions.
